Singer-songwriter Brent Cobb is launching Ol’ Buddy Records as a way to release his new music as well as reissue his 2006 debut album, No Place Left to Leave. Cobb will own his future master recordings for the first time, following two acclaimed albums with a major label.
As a married father of two young children, Cobb is seeking more balance between spending time with his family and honoring his touring, songwriting, and recording commitments. Ol’ Buddy Records is distributed through Thirty Tigers.
The label’s logo, drawn by songwriter Aaron Raitiere, is inspired by a photo of Cobb’s grandfather, shown seated on a riding lawnmower under a pecan tree. Cobb has used the phrase “ol’ buddy” for years as an affectionate nickname for good friends and kind-hearted strangers alike. “It’s how I describe the folks that warm your heart when you talk to them, which is what I try to do with my music,” he says.
